The electric bike market offers a significant commercial opportunity for specialist retailers, but in order to fully capitalise upon the opportunities retailers must be able to specialise and that means we need to cater for the market better than other retailers.
We are continually being told that as retailers we are not investing sufficiently in electric bicycles, but in reality there has been insufficient investment in the supply chain.
Electric bicycles are not overly complex, but they do incorporate totally different componentry. A credible specialist is not going to retail product that they don't fully understand. Retailers need to be able validate the differing component investment to their customers and be fully equipped to repair and service the products they sell.
The electric bicycle market also offers us a different customer base, slightly older, more female customers, which is in itself an exciting opportunity, but is something that we need to adapt our marketing and customer service too, in order to satisfy demand.
If just a small part of the time and investment made in the legislative campaigning over electric bicycles had been directed into the education and development of a retail network, we would be closer to having a consumer offering in the UK now.
With this in mind Cytech has been in discussions with BEBA (The British Electric Bicycle Association) and some of our established bicycle supplier members to progress the retail development of the electrical bicycle market via the Cytech training and accreditation programme.
Following a technical briefing of ATG and ActSmart representatives', electric bicycles will be incorporated into ATG's Cytech technical programme with bikes initially supplied by Wisper and Gepida. All future Cytech candidates will be able to consider the implications of working with e-bikes alongside conventional bicycles.
ATG are proposing to launch a dedicated 2 day Cytech Electric Bicycle course this summer, which can be accommodated within the Cytech Technical Three qualification or taken as a standalone course.
Cytech Electric will allow specialist retailers to more fully embrace the electric bicycle market, realising the commercial benefits for the business and the promotional opportunities of capturing a wider consumer audience as a qualified electric retail specialist.
Accredited candidates and businesses will feature in the Cytech Retail Directory with consumer promotional programmes to follow.
In order to progress course development and delivery we need to gauge demand, so whether you are a business owner or employee, please take a few minutes to register your candidate interest by clicking on the link below.
