The Complete Guide To Everyday Cycling

Posted on 6 Apr 2010

‘Love Your Bike: The Complete Guide To Everyday Cycling' is a new book written by bike-lover and Guardian journalist Helen Pidd and published by Penguin.

It truly is a complete guide, covering everything from getting started and choosing the right bike, to cycling safely, commuting and exercise via its 256 pages of well written, illustrated, referenced and informative content.

Helen outlines her ambition for the book in the introduction "I'm not trying to turn you into a Serious Cyclist. You're just you, same as always, but on a bike."

The book encourages cyclists to have fun and look good while you're at it. It will help consumers find their dream ride and stop someone from pinching it, and includes a whole chapter on tackling a commute by bike. For cyclists who want to take things to the next level, there are tips on cycling for sport and leisure, from weekend jaunts to charity rides and epic adventures.

The author carries favour with IBDs on page 51 "Do support independent bike shops...Independent shops often offer superior service, because they tend to be managed by their owners."

The ActSmart team has only had an early publication release for a week, but it's already well thumbed and has earned its position as an internal reference book.

Penguin are so intent that independent bike shops offer one of the best retail opportunities for the publication that they have put together an offer for ActSmart readers, whether you be Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum subscribers.

If you don't currently stock books this could be the time to start. A leading ACT member told ActSmart just last week that it was a growing and profitable part of their business. Easy to accommodate, low investment and stocking focused bicycle books from the kids market upwards helped them to further the promotion of cycling and make a profit from it.
